Day 9--Tara O'Grady

Tara O'Grady....I found her when I googled Black Irish.  The reason why I googled Black Irish is because in BIO we have been talking about mitosis and meosis--pretty much about how chromosomes make you who you are and traits you get from your parents.  We got on the subject about how certain kids look like one parent and not the other.  I then told the class that I have a blonde haired child and no one believed me.  My Bio teacher told us about the "Black Irish".  Which are people from a part of Ireland that have jet black hair and blue eyes.  When I googled Black Irish to see pictures of these "Black Irish"  Tara O'Grady popped up and I found her to be a musician so I checked out her music.

She is a mix of Jazz, Blues, Pop, and Celtic.  She has an amazing voice!  I like soulfulness of it and I enjoy that she has a 50s fashion sense that also matches her music.  Plus she is beautiful!  She was born and raised in NYC to Irish parents and spent every summer back in Ireland at her grandma's cottage.  Here is a link to her website:

I think if you like the sounds of the 50s you will enjoy her music.  I have already downloaded a couple of her songs for my ipod.  I only listened to her old album Black Irish and I plan on listening to her newer one Good Things Come to Those Who Wait this weekend.  I actually choose the song Good Things Come to Those Who Wait to share with you!

Day 8--Rodrigo y Gabriela ft. C.U.B.A!

On Thursday I have an imformative speech to give in my Public Speaking class, so I choose to inform the people about Zumba...in light of that I decided today to choose a "Latino" artist to keep my Zumba groove going.

Rodrigo y Gabriela also known and Rod y Gab are a Mexican gutair playing duo.  They meet in a Mexican Metal group and then broke from that group and made their duo.  They actually got their "break" into the music business in Dublin, Ireland where they started a huge underground following.  Here is a link to their website to get further info about them!

I enjoyed listening to all their songs from their new album "Area 52"  I see myself playing some of these songs while I clean--for some reason Kumbia/Latino music helps me get my cleaning done quicker....Esp. Ricky Martin--I <3 him :)   ANYWHO--  the song I choose to share with you is called Diablo Rojo  you will not be able to stop shaking your hips!!!

DISFRUTAR!!!   (ENJOY!)

1 week!

So it has been 1 week since I started my first challenge and I have to say that it has been fun so far.  It is a pretty easy challenge, the only thing that I find difficult is remembering to post.  Like tonight I was getting ready to get in the bed after studying for my Bio test tomorrow and just remembered that I did not do my challenge yet today.  So just remembering and finding time has been the challenge so far.  I hope you whoever is reading these posts are enjoying the music!  Now on to find a new and upcoming artist/band!

Day 7--Sarah Jarosz

I found Sarah Jarosz on the lineup for the upcoming music festival Bonnaroo.  I just saw her name on the list and googled it.  I like what I heard.  She is under the Country music genre...but she is more folky which I like.  I heard her songs on Itunes and I really enjoyed listening to them.

I did a little reading about her on her website. She is a college student and she plays most of her string instruments that you can hear in her songs!  She seems to be a very talented young woman which is always a plus! Here is her website for those of you who would like to check her out!

I do plan on downloading some of her songs.  Even though I am not much of a country music listener I like her because her music is more folky than pop.  I choose the song Run Away from her Follow Me Down Album.  I like the deep vocals in it and folkiness of the music.

Day 6- The Newsboys!

The Newsboys is not a new and upcoming band.  They are very popular among the Christian music following.  I however and new to the Christian music.  After Mike and I started going to The Summit Church we have heard a whole new song of Christian music and I have highly enjoyed listening to it.  The Newboys have recently came out with a song called "God's Not Dead", we heard this song the second week we went to church and I have been listening to it since.

The Newsboys have been around since the 1980s and started in Australia.  Here is a link to their website to learn more about the band:

I shared this video with my dad last week.  Growing up Catholic music like this was not played in our church, but I could see Father Ed rockin out to this song up on the alter! :)

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Day 5- Tindersticks

OKAY!!! So I had some internet issues last night and it never posted my blog post about this band..I saved the "preview" of it but the link is now broken and will not let me up load it...so I guess I am going to have to re-do this post again.

I found Tindersticks on Itunes "new" artist list.   Not a fan.  The music to me is okay but something that I would not really listen to.  However the song that I am posting on here I do like and might download for my running playlist.

Tindersticks is a band from England and that is pretty much all I know about them...I have been on their website several times and I have been having issues with it working.  So here is the link to it maybe you will have a better time with it then me.

I sampled all of their music on Itunes and honestly I couldn't wait to stop listening to it.  BUT this is the whole purpose of this challenge to learn and experience all different music.

So here is a video of the song that I liked the best!

Day 4 YelaWolf

Well to my surprise this is NOT a country band--lol.  It's more like Eminem and Charlie Daniels had a baby.  I do remember now that Mike had told me about this guy awhile ago but I wasn't paying much attention--like usual.  I found YelaWolf on the lineup for Bonnaroo.  I am really not much of the newer Hip Hop music person.  I like the music but it's not something that I choose over others.  I am more of an old school Hip Hop music liker.  The "newer" stuff I don't understand--meaning I have no idea what they are saying.  :)

So YelaWolf I take it is from Alabama and from what I have read about him is supported by Eminem, YelaWolf is on his label.  I read his BIO and found it to be very interesting.  I think that someone who can rhyme words together to make a song and make it meaningful has great talent.  From what I have heard from him, he is very talented.  Rap/Hip-Hop shouldn't have a "color" but on it.

Here is the link to YelaWolf's website where you can read more about him and listen to more of his music!
